Jenny Swanson hand builds abstract ceramic forms that question strength and fragility, impermanence and perceptions of beauty. Ordinary things, such as funnels, hourglasses, or tendrils are referenced in the work, metaphors for the flow and passage of time. On many pieces the ancient technique of terra sigillata, a thin, polished clay slip, is utilized for its rich surface effects and saggar fired. A number of new pieces are glazed and high fired porcelain.
